Broken S1 E5: When two residents struggle to see eye to eye, who’s side do you take? (Spoiler alert)

This is a review of the penultimate episode of Broken (BBC 1 at 9pm on Tuesdays).

My Thoughts

Father Micheal’s role requires him to always be impartial so in this episode, when he was faced with two arguing residents, all he could do was reason with them. The content of the argument tested his true belief in the lord and his likes towards sexuality. It was in this episode that we found out Father Micheal’s short uncertainty which went and goes against everything he is preaching.

We know that Father Micheal is not pure and has made mistakes – including his past. He has had a sad childhood, that has driven him to help and advise others in need, as a position in the church. His friendly nature certainly comes through as a character and despite his challenges, such as his mothers illness, he always has time for others.

It was nice to see in this penultimate episode that Father Micheal suffered less flashbacks and seemed to be coping better. I hope he continues to improve as he has been very unfortunate with his treatment and deserves peace too.

Poor Helen was trying to grieve for her son. When she finally got to see him for the first time since his death, she was happy and able to bring him home where he belonged. Now peaceful, Vernon was now in the care of the lord and this comforted Helen, despite a part of her heart being vacant. Father Micheal was very supportive, and despite his guilt over Vernon’s death, the most important thing was putting this family back together.

So now that this series is nearly over, what can we expect from the finale?

We saw Micheal with his sick mother, and we unfortunately have to consider the worse case scenario and what pain it would cause him with her passing.

Helen is also still grieving from the loss of her son Vernon, so will we see Helen finally except his death and move on? It would be lovely if she could and we expect Father Micheal to play a part in this, as either an advisor or a close friend.

Final Note

As always, I enjoyed the episode and look forward to seeing how or if these “broken” individuals find peace by the end of the series.

Star Rating

I would give this episode 4 stars as always! No disappointing episode to date!
