The finale series that had us glued to the screens! (Spoiler alert)

We had a lot of great telly this week with thrillers like the finale of Liar. We also said adu to the complicated but truly worth it, Rellik finale!

Liar (Finale on Monday 16th October 2017 BBC1)

The psychological thriller had lots going for it, and the built up was mounting, so much that the evidence was stacked against Andrew. Our opinion of Andrew as a character had become sour as the series went on, as more and more was revealed about his psychotic nature. The bluffing eventually got too real for Andrew! We just wanted him to go down for what he did, but instead the closing scenes panned onto a dead silhouette amongst the marshes.

His death was a surprise to all of us, but maybe for Laura it wasn’t. I wondered what really went on – if she had got to him and wanted to end it once and for all.

This series was engaging and has potential for a second. After all, what really happened to Andrew? Suicide or covered up murder?

Rellik (Finale on Monday 16th October 2017 ITV1)

The summary at the start was there to help us, but in all honesty, it just showed us how much we had forgotten. It was like watching a show on X4 or X8 and not following anything.

The plot took a dramatic turn in last weeks episode, in which we saw Elaine (aka Helena Parides) kill the Dr Jonas Borner in his car. She later attacked Dr Isaac Taylor after revealing such a haunting revelation that made us think differently about her whole character and intentions.

The series took its time to build, and lost many viewers in the process, but trust me when I say, that the finale not only pulled it all together, but it also had you hooked on every word and scene. And all of a sudden hell is breaking loose and you don’t know where to look. Blood, car chases, gun shots and fire all in one episode. Brilliant! 

The episode, mostly focusing on Elaine and Gabrielle, ended with a little hope, but we are still not certain. Will Elaine return or it the hell over for him in series 2?

What a way to finish a series, which a first was so confusing! I had the time and patience to watch these episodes, and relished in the challenge of decoding it.

I liked the way the plot all linked in by the end.

What went down in Rellik and Liar on BBC and ITV1 this week!

A summary of some of the series that we took the pleasure of watching this week. 

Liar (Episode 5, Monday 9th October 2017)

It was a dramatic episode. We had a worried police officer who was spiked and sexually abused in her home, a big over reaction about Laura’s sisters affair with her colleague Tom and more evidence of Andrew’s sick truths hidden away in a wooden shed.

We also saw a more authoritative side to Laura. She put herself in such danger, only for it to backfire in his favour. Tense scenes of rookie mistakes – running backwards in such an isolated boat harbour – the flaws were just too much for her to pull it off.

A episode of nail biting and agonising silences. Twists and turns in all directions, so who really knows? Maybe next week the truth about Andrew will no longer be relevant.

 Rellik (Episode 5, Monday 9th October 2017)

So this week’s episode had its usual and highly complicated plot. I know that many people have given up on the series because it is too much to take in however we are starting to understand a little bit more about these murders.

In this episode, we were able to paint a clearer picture on Gabriel’s character, who before his awful acid ordeal was a catch for the ladies. His unethical views of marriage  and the meaning of commitment was very worrying.

For anyone who has not seen Rellik, you may want to watch it before you read this very disturbing spoiler.

Liar, Rellik and Dr Forster: The dramas that unfolded this week!

A series round up once again. We close the curtains on Dr Forster! You have made our Tuesday nights entertaining, but we bid you farewell! See you for series 3 (hopefully)…

Liar (episode 4 on Monday 2nd October):

This episode showed us bits and pieces – unnerving things about previous occurrences. Little snippets that made us hate Andrew.

I am not sure about Andrew. He puts his nice face on at work, but is out of control when he is off shift. Breaking into houses, planting evidence, drugging a female police officer… a side to a surgeon that you don’t ever want to be see and hope is true! His audacity to sue her over ruining his reputation shows how he feels he has gotten away with it.

I liked the little potential love story in it between Laura and the man she met at the hotel – that you may be able to recover from something horrifying and abusive. It gives women  (and men, sadly) some hope that it will get better.

Star Rating: 4 stars!

 

Rellik (episode 4 on Monday 2nd October):

If you are still watching Rellik, then I applaud you! It takes time to get your head around it, but you are half way. Two more episodes then you can give your brain a rest!

I have been waiting to see what he looked like before the attack and we eventually did. He looked normal, relaxed and calm and he is so different now. He is now dysfunctional, scary and revenge hungry and I don’t blame him!

An episode that is still losing its popularity compared to Lair, its rival show on ITV.

A backwards plot that leaves fans answering their own questions by the end of the episode, taking away any suspense and excitement that watchers expect when watching a “thriller”.

Star Rating; 3 stars!

 

 

Dr Forster (episode finale on Tuesday 3rd October):

An episode that in my opinion went a little bit too far. A plot concerning two parents , in a rut, with a child in the middle – confused and sad. You could see it throughout the episode – the pain of not having a family that stands by one another and what it does to you.

There were moments where I thought she could “finish him off early”. She had an opportunity to hit him with her car and even gave him drugs to let him do it himself. But even with her hard cased character, she still loved him. The thought of him doing harm would be too much to bear and haunt her.

The episode was so dramatically farfetched, that it left us all broken with an outcome that every parent would dread. A moment where everything you fort over is gone. Yes, I thought Tom was hit by the car where he had watched his dad give up. I don’t know if him leaving was any better – at least you would know where he is and he was happy, you know?

A series that has come to a sad end, but has potential for a third – maybe Simon will get his life together or Tom will turn up. We hope so.

A series well worth your time!

A Series Recap of the week! What did I miss?

A little look at the series that were on earlier this week! I have not given much away (well I hope) so you can watch them now and experience the same excitement and drama.

Killer: Episode 3 (BBC 1 on Monday 25th Sept at 9pm)

A twisted episode with the murder and relationship that was very close to home. It all got a little uncomfortable. A closing  cliffhanger scene also left us desperate for more and scared for Gabriel’s well-being.

The series is getting more complicated by the episode. It takes total concentration to remember the plot and the going back in time aspect is not everyones thing.

Still worth a watch though!

Liar: Episode 3 (ITV 1 on Monday 25th Sept at 9pm)

The episode was like a game of table tennis. Just when we thought we were winning and you knew who it was, you were suddenly hit by a fastball. Little details that add to the plot (slowly)  but give us no real clue about what happened.

I don’t know how you feel about the characters, but I was especially shocked to by the closing scene – I felt like saying “We got you!”. The truth is, we have been on tenterhooks during the series and have supported both parties at some point.

We will get to the final episode and then ask ourselves “why did we not see it?” Because all of a sudden it will become really obvious. 

Great engaging episode!

Dr Forster: Episode 4 (BBC 1 on Tuesday 26th at 9pm)

This episode showed the aftermath  of the guilty party who got what he deserved. Just when you thought it was going good, it went up a notch. It was so satisfying to watch and drama was written all over.  

We have made it to the finale next Tuesday and everything is going to come down to this. Will all the efforts be worth it in the end?

Weekly review: A brief review of the latest series to catch up on!

Three series with their own little review. If you are wondering what to watch or have lost track of the array of shows you have started, than this should help.

Series included in this review include Rellik, Liar and Dr Forster.  As some of you would be aware, Strike: Silkworm (J K Rowling book based series) had its final episode last week and it was good! It is still on Iplayer if you are interested..

Rellik (episode 2):

The episode was hard to follow, much like last weeks. There is only so much back tracking that you can take before your minds are boggled and you completely forget what has happened. It is a nice idea and the plot is definitely captivating, but it is just a little bit too complicated. I’m sure that by the end of Rellik, it will make sense  – all the lose ends will be tied up and you can see it in normal time, but honestly, I don’t think viewers will wait that long.

There is a growing, unanimous opinion from viewers that it is unwatchable and they have favoured other series like Liar or Dr Forster. I agree.

Liar (episode 2):

A series that gets more tense as the episodes progress. A tin of worms was thrown into the case – a trending social media post, a new insight into Andrews wife death, a text from unknown…

We also had a brief encounter from Dennis Walters in the previous episode – “She has lied about something like this”… as if it is not the first and Andrew is her next victim. She seems like a lovely character, however we only know that she is a teacher. Nothing about her history prior to that night. She may be a little more surprising than we think!

The episode was tense and made us wonder… are there things that they are not telling us?  I just feel like watching more… excited to find out what will happen next. A week is far too long to wait!

Dr Forster on BBC 1:

Episode 3 showed on Tuesday 19th September

Dr Forster was back to her tricks and had a few things up her sleeve. With everything that was going on with her son, it was a chance to patch things up with her Simon, or was it?

A few things led to another and the family went into crisis. A confused and upset son, a lonely and desperate mother and a father trying to move on with his new, slightly controversial and partially undeserved life. What else would you want to watch with this much drama??

This was a very exciting episode. So much was going on and there were very raunchy scenes. There was definitely no holding back by Gemma but it’s no scene for sensitive eyes….

Trust Me S1 E4: Cathy is at breaking point and everything is too close to call! Will she make it out unscaved? (Spoiler alert)

This episode was the finale (episode 4) and I was expecting shards to fly. But I must say I was surprised as they didn’t fly as thought they would.

It was fast paced and I do applaud Jodie Whittaker for such a passionate performance. Unfortunately my praises end there. There are and having been many flaws in this episode.

I will be going into a lot more detail about the episode now and what I thought! If you have not seen it, don’t read on past this point – it will take away the need to watch the episode and I frankly I want you to watch it and let me know what you think.

I find it is often easier to watch it one after another as it is more like real time. Here is a good opportunity – have a watch and let me know 🙂

The Great British Bake Off was a success but left us missing the BBCs no advert rule (spoiler alert)

This is a review of the newly launched GBBO on channel 4.  We moved to a channel with new contestants, new judges (except Paul) and new presenters.

My Thoughts

I liked the bake off – I was worried that I would miss Mel and Sue (and I did) but I found Noel and Sandi rather funny and I settled in. Their opening to the show was entertaining and their one liners bounced off each other like table tennis.

All the main components and challenges were the same, but I was in more anticipation as I was unsure if Prue would play nice or not. She was tough and I liked that. Mary was always lovely about it and found the positive side to it, but something about Prue’s straight to the point judging made it really good.
The challenges were harder and the pressure was higher and as usual we had a few lagging behind. Forgetting to put ovens on, cakes falling apart… it was the bake off we know and love.
The challenges were brilliant and the illusion cake show stopper was a toughy, but boy, did they pull through. I was sure that they were real blueberry pancakes (and I would love to go to Liam’s house for breakfast). I have never really liked tomato, but Stephens BLT looked better than any sandwich I had ever had.  And wow… Flo could have fooled me with her watermelon if I hadn’t seen her cooking it!

Congrats to Stephen for Star Baked!

I hate to see Mel, Sue and Mary go, but this breath of fresh air actually grew on me.

All is well and good, but if there is one thing we British hate as much a queuing.. it’s adverts. The number of food related adverts was beyond anything and the fact that there was an advert break before the last two minutes was absolutely pointless. We never really appreciate something until it’s gone and now we wish that we could just watch it all in one and not lose our place or forget who baked what.

Netherleless, I would watch it again and try not to get hungry when I see the cake baking challenge with Stork.

Overall

A better than expected opening episode. I had my doubts about its popularity without Mel, Sue and Mary however Noel and Sandi eased my worries.

Trust Me S1 E3 recap review: Cathy witnessed a hard truth at the hospital that could expose her once and for all (spoiler alert)

This is a review of the BBC series Trust Me,  series 1 episode 3, featuring Jodie Whittaker as Cathy/Alison.

The Plot

Part of the reason, Cath pursued her position as a doctor was to uncover why so many patient deaths have occurred in the hospital, labelled as accidents. She was finally exposed to a harsh insight and saw one for herself, only to cover it up. It is then that she realised how there was more to these incidents, and that is not just the altering of reports. Her involvement in the case has leave her out to dry for all to see. It is about time that they would come asking about it.

Her week had really not been good, and with the recent passing of her father, she was rather distracted. So a trip to Andy’s countryside home was nice and could allow her to relax – but oh wait.. he had an agenda and he knew about her Cathy/Alison cover up. Only he wanted to help her because she was the best doctor they had.

Sweet of him.. but would his decision come back to bite him and was it genuine?

My Thoughts

The episode progressed rather quickly – on a spectrum from sympathy and anger to shock and complete horror. I was on an emotional rollercoaster.

I was glad that Andy helped her when he confronted her about her secret, but it is a big thing to keep and I have this feeling that he may not stick to his word. He has the power to make or break her and going into the final episode, the truth will come out one way or another.

There was a horrific case during Cathy’s busy shift. It was the blood and the needles. I was close to looking away, it was not for the faint hearted.

What’s coming up…

A dramatic episode!

• Will they find out her true identity?
• Will Andy keep his word?
• Will she publicise the conspiracy or will she stick up for the team?

This is the final episode and I am excited!

This episode gets 3 stars and a good recommendation! Despite some unplausible points that I mentioned in previous  episode reviews, this series is entertaining and watchable.

Trust Me S1E2 recap: Things get tense as Cathy gets a little too deep and risks everything she holds dear! #docotrincrisis

Episode 2 of Trust Me was a little more dramatic and I liked it! Who doesn’t like a little of drama…

The Plot

Cathy is deep in her lies and the longer she works there, the more trouble she will get into. She has such a burden on her shoulders, and feels under pressure from her undercover secret! She would do anything to keep it, like acquiring a fake passport.

So called “Alison” has found her place in the hospital and she has made an great impression amongst her colleagues, especially Dr Andrew Brenner who is completely into her. Their secret relationship is rather controversial, especially if it is eventually unearthed by her husband?

Despite fitting in, it has not been easy. It has been full of mistakes – mostly basic tell tale procedures and even providing her passport was a little difficult – because, of course she was not Alison.  I don’t understand why someone has not caught on to it .

Trust Me S1 E1 recap: Jodie Whittaker finds herself as doctor with one aim: to uncover the truth!

A new series on the BBC once again tries to grab our attention with a heart stopping drama with Jodie Whittaker posing as a doctor in an A&E hospital in Edinburgh (Doctor? such a coincidence..).

The Plot

The plot is fairly simple, but has a complicated secret. A string of information that can uncover an awful truth. Her opportunity to uncover this depends on whether she can get a way in, work for the hospital and get solid proof herself.

The Character

The character Jodie plays is rather troublesome and takes a completely different identity –  her friend, Alison Sutton.

Jodie seemed at ease in her role – she was a natural, and could adapt her acting beautifully to the situation. She was able to be bewildered when Alison Sutton was faced with A&E for the first time and could even grasp Alison’s quick learning of complicated medical knowledge and procedures.

The Flaws

The plot was interesting, but not totally believable. Ok… so the lack of security, passport and NI number checks when being employed. The alarm bells should have been ringing when she seemed totally overwhelmed when doing basic tasks, that she (her fake identity) is qualified to do.  Many viewers caught on to this and took to this on Twitter.

Last Note

It was an informative and slightly unrealistic first episode, but now we know the basics, we can not get into the corruption! A well played role so far from Jodie Whittaker,
